Nevado de Cachi 6380m

A rarely climbed peak on the edge of the Argentine Puna, often called Libertador and sometimes quoted at a crazy 6700m! This is one of my favourite parts of the Andes - laid back, beautiful scenery and nice mountains.

Libertador and the Nevados de Cachi from the village of Cachi.

The high peaks of the Nevados de Cachi seen from the village of Cachi which lies to the southeast. The peak that appears highest and snowiest is Melendez (6020m), may sometimes be known as Antifeatro. The tiny peak in the distance to its right is Hoygaard (6195m), named after a Norwegian who lived in the area in the 50's and may sometimes mistakenly be hispanicized as Hoyada or Ollada.

Very dry conditions on the summit of Nevado de Cachi.... hard to believe this photo was taken at 6380m!

We can organise guided ascents of this peak. For details of how to climb this and neighbouring peaks please see our guidebooks, which are available in English, Spanish, Czech, Polish and French editions, direct from us or from all good bookshops and mountaineering shops.
