Classic Ski Mountaineering in the High Andes around Mendoza and Aconcagua.
This exploratory ski-mountaineering expedition, will travel to one of the countries with the best skiing in the Andes. The expedition will be based in the city of Mendoza in western Argentina where we will make ascents several trips into the high Andes, including the area around Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America.
The expedition will fly out to the city of Mendoza. Our first mountain destination will be the small ski resort of Penitentes where we will ski several peaks once we have had a warm up day on the pistes. After a night back in Mendoza we will drive south to the major resort of Las Leñas, where again we will have several days skiing in the mountains. In the event of poor weather we will perhaps have another resort day here as well. Finally we travel back north to the Atuel valley where we will ski a couple of higher peaks, perhaps getting as high as 4500m on the slopes of Volcan Sosneado. We will camp near the roadside for this section of the trip
Like our Chile Ski Mountaineer, which we have successfully run for many years, this itinerary will be deliberately kept flexible to make the best use of weather and snow conditions. The choice of tour each day will depend on current conditions, particularly the state of access roads.
Expedition members should be strong parallel or telemark skiers (black runs). Previous touring experience is also desirable. We will take our own skis out to Argentina.
Please read the comments about our style of trip before booking one of our treks or expeditions.
