Norway Ski Mountaineering Courses

I have a new Norwegian Ski Mountaineering Course scheduled for 11th-18th April 2014. This course is designed as an introduction to ski touring and is suitable for skiers with no previous touring/mountaineering experience. I will keep the course very flexible to adapt to the needs of the clients who book. The scenery and skiing in this part of the world is absolutely stunning, with descents from summits in the range of 1000m to 1400m high often finishing right down at sea level, if not actually on the beach!. This course is suitable for any fit and experienced skiers or snowboarders, you should ideally be able to descend red runs at a good speed in complete control, and some hill or mountaineering fitness is also essential.

We will aim to ski a different peak every day, giving a total of six days of skiing (11th and 18th are travel days). A typical day will be 5 or 6 hours out on the hill. If weather is very poor there are shorter options to ski into various huts, usually more or less along the base of a valley (and so much safer from weather and avalanche problems). Sometimes it can also be worthwhile escaping through to Sweden or Finland for a day to get slightly better weather!

The course is designed for those with their own skis or splitboards, but I can help arrange hire equipment if you need it.

These courses are based in the area around Tromso at about 68º to 70ºN. We will most likely stay the majority of nights in the small village of Lyngseidet in the middle of the best skiing, but probably with a night or two in Tromso at the start and finish of the course (depending on clients flight schedules).  Accommodation is usually of a very high Scandinavian standard and normally comes with breakfast and evening meals, so you won't need much additional spending money. I can help with arranging accommodation and flights once you have booked. Travel around the area will be by shared rental car.  If you want further information or advice on any of the travel and accommodation options before booking please ask me!

But most of the work I do is "tailor made" to meet clients specific requirements. I can organise and instruct ski-touring courses like those featured above or guided days out on skis for individuals or small groups of friends.
